Once upon a time, there was a young boy studying in MRSM Terendak. He was both eager and motivated, while being arrogant and stubborn. Today, the young boy sits thinking of his past, realizing only that memories are indeed the only treasures we own and no one can take that away from us.
It all started when we had our mini gathering of ex-MRSM Terendak high school friends. It was wonderful to see how people have changed throughout the years. Some are successful business women and men, some are still as slim and some have grown triple their sizes. I realize then that along the way, we all had given up our youth to have a different life of our own. We would probably argue about what life means, and the fundamental views of a life is different from one person to the other, some consider work as their life, some have families as their life and some consider health as their life. We all have quite different views of what fundamental importance exist in life, but among the many, we would all agree that our memories were the sweetest treasures we all have in our lives.
Among the things that made us realise this is some old pictures gathered by our friend ainnie. She managed to salvage from a moldy box, hidden in a store room under a decade old of dust. And in that box was the treasures of our past. It was not gold, it was not silver but it was her scrap book containing some pictures of our lives in MRSM Terendak. She scanned some of the pictures, and shared it with us. It was amazing.....how we all changed so much.....
Here are some of the pictures that made me smile that day....
Out of the many things I did in MRSM Terendak--not talking about the naughty stuff, that was plenty, i meant the good kinda things that can built a positive character--I remember young Joey participating in a Southern Zone MRMS English Drama Competition, I played the
role of a Fairy God Father, later changed to Tok Bomoh due to the plot being argued by MRSM Judges and Officials as not Local, Islamic and Malay cultured. I remember this because I was the initial writer for this fantasy like drama. Even at that age, I was doing things that was just opposite of what the authority wanted. I guess being mischievous and rebellious is an innate talent I never really wanted....but always had....
Out of the many pictures taken, I remember the one above. It was at night, after prep. I was so skinny then, I even had a neck cause I was soo skinny. Now, you can hardly see my neck...hehehe. I like to think that my neck got shorter instead of me getting fatter. hehehe
Yes young Joey always loves attention and had dreamt to be a rock star once. But the dream never came true. I must add that MRSM had a balance of arts and sciences in their education system. It's just that the arts education was unofficial. This is where I learn how to play the guitar, in the dorms from friends. Look at how thick my hair was .... wonder where all my hair had gone to today....
Anyway, having seen that, do you agree with me that memories are the most sweetest treasures in life?
I agree.....
ReplyDeleteBut then Joey....I think memang ur neck getting shorter lah...haha
hi, was just browsing and the post was a bit too interesting to not make a statement.
ReplyDeletewhat year did you took your spm?
I had one of the fondest memories and one of the worst memories at terendak. but it made me who I am.
recently, the bad one haunt my life thru friendster. after 7 good years I've tried so best to forgive and forget even to those who didn't apologise but, I noticed, I never really did forgive nor forget.
but, good or bad, indeed a treasure. one that make your life more worthy.
Hi Wan, my neck getting shorter? No lah its me getting taller....yeah I wish....
ReplyDeleteHi Cosmic freak,
Nice of you to drop in and give a comment. I think I took SPM year 1994 or was it 93. But I was born 77. So that's your reference point. So you are a terendakian as well, yeah, I had a lot of fond memories and bad once too. But bottom line is that the experience we had there shaped who we are today....
Whether we like it or not, it's who we are .....

Dear Sis,
What a good observation. However, I always thought I was always in the middle and infront because I'm the shortest in the crowd. But your alternative view would be a better explanation. I'll use that from now on...hehehe
Marjan,
You damn right we are cool....
Syed,
Thanks for the song, I'm going to look for the chords now....boleh main lagu nie when i'm feeling blue.
It's like looking at the glass half full, rather than half empty.
